Blocking Ads on an Android Smartphone and Tablet
Improve your privacy posture, lose the frustration, and save mobile data by blocking advertising services on your mobile device running Android! This works on devices manufactured by Google, Samsung, Nothing, etc.
This works without using a VPN, so no money is required! Just so you know, VPNs such as Mullvad and Proton provide various blocking options as part of their services.
You'll also find that this will block ads within your devices's web browser!
- Go to Settings → Network & Internet (or Wi-Fi & Internet).
- You might see an option called Private DNS. If not, you might have to go to Advanced and then you'll see it.
- In Private DNS, you can set a provider such as noads.libredns.gr or dns.adguard-dns.com. Use whichever one you like!
- You might notice that banner and popup ads in apps no longer appear, that's because they are getting sinkholed using DNS! Enjoy!
